"Go Native" event in Oakland

Anybody in Oakland know anything about this?

eta: the original poster/flyer are still up here at tribe.net. There's also a post about the statement from AIM West, with plenty of "no *we'll* define whats really racist not the native community" in the comments.

so lately there's been discussion in various places about cultural appropriation. this has led to an awful lot of shrill tantrum throwing by people with entitlement issues poc being questioned about what, exactly, is appropriation, and how not to do it ( Read more... )

I've seen a few lj threads recently in which poc mention cultural appropriation and it's summarily dismissed as sour grapes, ignorant youth, or just general drama mongering on their part. The idea that poc have been talking about cultural appropriation, or even getting annoyed about it for a very long time seems to shock and amaze some folks, ( Read more... )
